Glass filters containing rare earth oxides are mounted stress-free in an anodised aluminium holder, with sliding window covers protecting the surface. Because glass wavelength filters are made from different melts, actual peak positions and the availability of some peaks may vary from melt to melt, and certified values vary accordingly. The manufacturer notes the filters are useful as a limited wavelength check but are not accepted by all pharmacopoeias. Combination filters combine holmium or didymium glass with a neutral density filter.
