Stray light is any light reaching the detector outside the selected spectral bandwidth and can cause the measured analyte absorbance to be too low. The liquid cut-off filters are solutions permanently sealed by heat fusion into far UV quartz cells; a range of materials allows stray light to be estimated at different wavelengths. The USP and EP have different recommendations, and a universal set meets both. References can be ordered separately or in combination.
